So... do I resurrect Amused & Abused on a free web service, or do I upload all my fic to AO3?

Unfortunately I can't do either at the moment, since my website back-up is currently sitting on an abandoned hard drive in an anti-static sleeve on my desk.

And to be honest - is any of it worth keeping? I write for a living now, at least in part, and something that comes with that is the ability to judge what's good writing and what's really not. And the stuff I wrote pre-2007 is mostly all 'not'.

I just realised something a bit disturbing. I somehow managed to reach the age of 39 without noticing that my preference for lanky, black-haired, blue-eyed, highly intelligent men might be because my Dad (who died when I was in my teens) was a lanky, black-haired, blue-eyed, highly intelligent man.

Yeah, I think I could have happily gone another 40 years without that little bit of information.

I had the weirdest dream. I was in Camelot, dressed as an extra, and I had my iPhone hidden in my bra, and was trying to be 'authentic peasant #3'. And then I realised that no one else knew we were being filmed, and that the cameras were hidden, and everyone thought they really were in Camelot. I didn't have a speaking part because I wasn't a member of RADA, so everyone got confused because I backed away when they spoke to me.

I was starting to get worried that my odd behaviour would get me either fired or burned for witchcraft when I woke up.

I'm having an OMG, would you pay attention day. Meat space and fandom join together in an attempt to make my head pop. Don't you just hate it when people decide they want to do something they know you're not in favour of, then either ignore your objections or argue that some obscure thing you said about something completely unrelated means that you support their position, and your objections are 'wrong'?

I am going to bury myself in apocalypse fiction and forget all about it. Now... giant intelligent flesh eating alienesque creatures, or swarms of tiny mindless flesh eating insectoids? Can't decide... can't decide... USE BOTH!

I am deeply in love with Caprica. I'd been watching because of BSG, but after last week's episode, I'm watching it for itself. I was about to conclude that this week's ep wasn't as good and then ( spoiler ). I love the fact that there are no good guys or bad guys. People do good things and people do bad things. Something they do bad things for reasons they perceive as good. Sometimes they do good things for selfish reasons.

It's like they're real people instead of characters!

I wish top-notch writers would do basic research. Most of them do, but every so often... they don't. And then they get rec'd anyway, and I start shouting at the monitor, because it's a good story, and I want to keep reading it, but IT'S OMG WRONG.

In this case it's a Merlin post-grad AU set in London. Only they've transplanted the US system of postgraduate studies requiring the student to teach. That doesn't happen in the UK - postgrads don't teach unless they've taken a teaching job (and this is very rare - generally only done by people who intend to become teachers, don't have full funding and need a job, and don't mind adding an extra year on to their studies to compensate for the time lost to a job). And if they have a teaching job it's completely separate from their studies, would not give them any credits towards their qualification, and they'd be paid for it.

They've also transplanted the US system of interning. While this isn't unheard of over here, it's far more likely to be called a work placement or work experience.

I'm only on chapter 2, and I really want to know what happens in the story. From what I've read so far, the actual story has very little to do with the cocked-up student shit. If you don't know how it works, you don't want to do the research, and it's not relevant to the storyline, why in the name of God would you transplant some American into a story set in the UK?

Edit: Oh God, they transplanted the US medical system and the US legal system too. *headdesk* Okay, I'm officially too pissed off to finish the story now, and it's going to nag at me, dammit.

I have written dreadful Merlin spankfic.

I'm currently pondering whether to beg for a beta and post it to kinkelot or just hit the delete button with extreme prejudice.

I started watching Criminal Minds. So far I'm 10 episodes into S1, and I'm really liking the Morgan/Reid relationship. I went looking for fic, but I'm going to end up being spoiled for a lot of episodes, or I'm going to be lost because of references to episodes I haven't seen yet.

Anyone know of some good early fic, or stuff that doesn't reference episodes?
