So... around four years ago I stopped writing. Why? Because I wrote something wildly successful.
There were a number of reasons why I stopped writing - I was at college and working, I'd gained enough critical expertise to realise I'm never going to be a great writer, I ran out of ideas, I just wasn't inspired to write.
All plausible reasons for stopping writing. Except... every time I write something that gets me a lot of attention, I stop writing for a while. I hadn't even noticed until I sat and thought about it. The last really big lull in my writing was after I'd written an Andromeda novella that got me a whole shitload of e-mails (back in the days of mailing lists) and award nominations.
This time the lull was a lot bigger - in the last four years I've written maybe four short stories. But now... I think I'm back. I wrote a Merlin back-story a few months ago, and now I'm suddenly banging out a Torchwood futurefic.
It feels good :)
